Looking for a safe place where young children can play to their hearts’ content?<\/span><\/p>\n

Let me introduce you to the beautifully maintained Mifune Fureai Park (\u5fa1\u8239\u753a\u3075\u308c\u3042\u3044\u516c\u5712), also known as “Dinosaur Park”.<\/span><\/p>\n

Located in Mifune-machi, Kamimashiki-gun<\/h2>\n

Just a seven-minute drive from the Costco’s Kumamoto Mifune location.<\/span><\/p>\n

We entered the park from the west side parking area off National Route 445, greeted by dinosaurs!<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

There are several entrances, but the west side has ample parking.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

There was even a bus!<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Always watch for children who might dart across the parking lot.<\/span><\/p>\n

Event Plaza<\/h2>\n

Right at the park’s entrance is the event plaza,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

where dogs are also welcome. Dog owners are asked to keep their pets on leashes.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

There’s also a public restroom available.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The spacious square has<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

plenty of shades, making it perfect for watching the kids play<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\u00a0or enjoying a picnic. On weekends, you might even find a food truck here.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

And then there’s the Brook statue.<\/span><\/p>\n

As part of a post-earthquake recovery project linked with Kumamoto Prefecture and its native manga artist, Eiichiro Oda, a statue of Brook from the popular manga “One Piece” has been installed in Mifune Town.\u3000<\/span><\/p>\n

On this day, I saw what appeared to be tourists from overseas filming the statue!<\/span><\/p>\n

Kids\u2019 Play Area at the Back<\/h2>\n

The kids\u2019 area features dinosaur-themed play equipment,<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

on which your kids can have plenty of fun climbing and sliding to their heart’s content.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

There\u2019s even a splash pad, though it wasn’t operational during my April visit, but is perfect for summer splashing.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Here’s another one. Just bring swimsuits and towels for a full-on fun time.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Conveniently, there’s another restroom near the kids’ area.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Even adults can have fun on the zipline!<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

There was an older gentleman on the zipline.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

I watched him swing gracefully far into the distance.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

I, embarrassingly, dropped straight down, the momentum almost burning my hands! I completely overestimated my ability to hold on to the rope.<\/span><\/p>\n

There is a facility called \u201dDino Base Mifune\u201d at the entrance that has a nursing room and sells soft-serve ice cream. Note that it is closed on Mondays and Thursdays.<\/span><\/p>\n

There\u2019s also a handy “What\u2019s Next?” map on-site for those figuring out what to do after visiting the park, chock-full of local recommendations.<\/span><\/p>\n
