Restaurants Oregon’s Fluffy Omurice Makes Diving In with a Spoon So Much Fun!

writer:Haru Haru

I can’t suppress my feelings to eat omurice–! Oh, wait, I know that olace in Suizenji, “Restaurant Oregon”. So, to be sucked in, I decided to visit there! Let me share the experience with you!

A restaurant filled with SoftBank Hawks!?

It was around half-past two p.m.

They are still offering lunch at this hour! In Japan, many restaurants stop their lunch offering around 2 p.m.

Soon after I entered the restaurant, the SoftBank Hawks uniforms and autographs caught my attention. It is one of the professional baseball teams in Japan! According to the restaurant, SoftBank players visit this restaurant when they come to Kumamoto for their private training.

Wow!! This is the autograph written by Mr. Nobuhiro Matsuda!!! Actually, I don’t know much about baseball, but even I have heard of him before!!

You’ve probably noticed by now; the owner is a big fan of Softbank Hawks!

Their signature dish must be omurice!!

After seated, I eagerly scanned the menu. Their recommended specialty is omurice! I ordered “Omurice & Karaage Chicken Combo” (1,580 yen). I love omurice and Karaage!! But, it might be a little bit pricey for lunch… But, don’t worry!! Oregon offers their meals with a quality that makes this price seem nothing but fair!

Check out their omurice!

The waiter brought my omrice with an charming appearance, saying “Please enjoy.”

Look! The jiggly and delicate omelet was delicately placed atop chicken fried rice!

I snapped a shot from a different angle. There are many types of omurice in the world. The orthodox type has the rice enveloped. There’s another type that already looks delicious with softly-set eggs on top. And the one that you cut a slit in the egg and it unfolds. As you can see in the photo, it must be the last type!!

So, let’s cut it in half!!

I plunged the spoon right into the middle, reaching all the way to the plate, and then spread it out from there. This way, you can get a great view of the cross-section, haha. The chicken rice is made up of chicken, mushroom, and onion. It’s very simple, but the simplicity brings out its flavor. Pure happiness in one mouthful.

A lot of ketchup is used for it, but it doesn’t have too much acidity; it’s quite mellow flavor So the ketchup doesn’t interfere at all. I can’t stop eating it!!

Side Menu

Don’t forget the other dishes I ordered!!

The soup is a carefully crafted potage as you’d expect from a Western-style restaurant in Japan.

It is very smooth, and not overly rich. They bring out the natural flavors of the ingredients!

The vegetables used for salad are crisp!

Karaage is crispy outside and light on the palate, and well-seasoned.

This is what Karaage, offered at a Western-style restaurant in Japan, is all about! Alternating between Karaage and rice omelet, they were gone before I knew it.

Summary

Restaurant Oregon has been loved since it opened in 1993. The taste of the food at this long-loved place was so gentle and unpretentious, which made me feel like visiting again and again.
