Where Even Adults Can Have Fun with All Their Might: Lessons Learned at Forest Adventure Misato

writer:kese kese

When was the last time you threw caution to the wind and just went all out?

For me, it’s such a long time ago that I barely remember.

It’s as if becoming an adult meant learning the art of restraint, dialing down those moments when we used to give everything our all.

I realize now that the days I ran as fast as I could, fell down, and cried were glorious days. That’s why I went to a place that is reputed to be somewhere I can enjoy with all my might.

Where Even Grown-Ups Can Unleash Their Inner Child

So where did this quest for adrenaline take me?

Forest Adventure Misato!

Located in the heart of Misato Town, southeast of Kumamoto City, lies “Forest Adventure Misato” – a sanctuary of greenery, an arena where nature calls you to play.

Originating in France, this chain of eco-friendly outdoor parks invites you to blend into its natural beauty and test your mettle against its challenges.

Upon arrival, the first stop was the registration desk. They’ve got you covered with all essentials, including rental shoes, making it a breeze for impromptu adventurers.

Protective gloves are a must for the journey ahead, and I opted for the park’s own.

Not only practical but also a charming keepsake!

No Experience? No Problem!

Staff Members at Forest Adventure Misato

Worried you’re not outdoorsy enough? No need.

Even if you’re not usually one for outdoor adventures, you’re in good hands. The staff here is all about support, ensuring you don’t have a single worry as you dive into the day’s activities.

Before you can get started, there’s the matter of the harness – something you won’t be wearing alone. The staff are there every step of the way, helping you suit up and ensuring everything’s secure.

Once harnessed, it’s time for a quick run-through on how to enjoy the park safely.

“The cardinal rule of Forest Adventure,” as we’re told, “is that your safety is in your own hands.”

They walk you through every bit of the equipment, ensuring you’re paying attention.

And trust me, it’s a moment of utmost seriousness – no room for goofing off here.

After the briefing, it’s time to put theory into practice.

Before heading to the real deal, there’s a practice area to get the hang of things. You can practice as much as you need until you feel ready, easing the nerves of even the most anxious participants. Still, everyone approaches the course with a bit of trepidation.

But that was just a warm-up!

Pushing Limits in the Great Outdoors

Forest Adventure Misato is one of over 30 Forest Adventure parks nationwide, but not all parks have an Adventure Course. The Adventure Course here is the most challenging of all, offering a level of difficulty not found in every location.

Main Attraction No. 1: Japan’s Longest Zip Slide Across a Dam

 Let’s begin the first stage.

This lofty platform right in the heart of the park.

I cross the Midorikawa Dam, which has a scenic view in front of me, with only one rope!

Facing us was the Midorikawa Dam, ready to be crossed with nothing but a single rope!

The park sits on the banks of the Midori River Dam. In fact, the location was chosen specifically for Forest Adventure because of its potential to host Japan’s longest zipline that crosses over a dam!

Standing before the dam, it’s normal for your legs to turn to jelly. You know it’s safe, but taking that first leap is a whole other story. But muster the courage, and off you go!

Muto

It’s terrifying, yet once you’re soaring, it’s exhilarating!

There’s No Holding Back

Overcoming the dam-crossing zip slide, the biggest challenge at first glance, only marks the beginning.

There are five stages to tackle in sequence.

 Climbing up.

 Crossing over.

After conquering the dam, this seems like a breeze.

Piece of cake, right?

 That’s what I thought until I reached Stage 2.

You’ll have to climb to dizzying heights. At this point we realized,

This is the real deal.

After all, the setting is the forest. The essence of this facility lies in its use of the natural environment as it is. It’s here, amidst nature, where survival instincts are honed.

 There’s rock climbing,

 Scaling ropes,

 And making your way across.

Sometimes, it’s a narrow log that tests your focus every step of the way.

 A moment’s lapse could mean a slip.

 Even the confident Ito,

 Gets a reality check.

And almost slips. But fear not, the encompassing harness and lifeline provide unwavering support, ensuring safety throughout.

Main Attraction No. 2: The Vertigo-Inducing “Minomushi Chute”

Up next in Forest Adventure Misato’s trio of thrills is the Minomushi Chute, a heart-stopping leap from a high platform. Simple in concept, but sheer terror in practice.

“It’s okay. You just have to jump.”

Easier said than done with this vertigo-inducing height. People below look like ants.

“This is terrifying! This is by far the worst!”

Seriously, I am scared out of my mind.

But there’s no turning back now. Clutching the rope tightly…

Ito

Ryo

Huh?  It’s surprisingly slow.

“Once you take that first step, it’s fine.”

“But it’s truly frightening when you’re up there.”

Main Attraction No. 3: The Tarzan Swing

The final of the three big thrills is the Tarzan Swing.

Starting from a lofty perch, you’re faced with this breathtaking view. Grab the rope and aim for the net.

But it doesn’t end there. After landing on the net, the climb up adds to the thrill! It’s a grand adventure powered by the sheer force of nature.

This is an activity that even adults will go all out for.

Emerging a Tad Wiser

After dedicating ourselves fully to having a blast, we spent a total of about 3 and a half hours.

“My key takeaway is how important it is to have the courage to take the first step.”

“Ito looked nothing less than a professional forester out there.”

Forester Ito exuding seasoned vibes

“And how many times did we climb up ropes? It was tough.”

“I caught you taking a break halfway through!”

This is the decisive moment when Muto is slacking off.

“I was just overlooking the situation. Getting a broader perspective is crucial too.”

“You both are saying like life lessons.”

“Interestingly, in countries like France, Forest Adventure is used by companies as a tool for developing their employee’s risk management skills. It’s used for new recruit training even sports teams. We have many programs tailored to specific goals, so we hope you can make full use of our offerings to suit your needs!”

Forest Adventure Misato is not just about thrilling activities; it promotes growth in both mind and body.

Set against the backdrop of an expansive forest, it offers a refreshing break from daily life. For those seeking a new challenge, we wholeheartedly recommend Forest Adventure Misato. Give it your all!
