writer:kese kese

Hey there Higo Journal Fans!

Ever crave a sushi splurge for lunch? I sure do! But the wallet often says no, right? The time has come. Your dream has finally come true!

“Katsugyo Kaiten Sushi Suiten” in Kikuyo Town has a luxurious lunch menu will make you feel like a king without breaking the bank!

If you’re hankering for sushi or a bit of indulgence at lunch, this is the spot!

A Hidden Sushi Gem in Kikuyo

“Katsugyo Kaiten Sushi Suiten Kumamoto Kikuyo Branch”(The name roughly translates to “Live Fish Conveyor Belt Sushi Restaurant Suiten”)opened in April 2022 in Kikuyo Town.

The building has a simple and reserved exterior.

In Japan, not being able to see directly inside a restaurant is often thought of as imparting a kind of mystique and exudes a sense of luxury.

However, a glance at the menu on the signboard reveals surprisingly affordable lunch options starting from just 980 yen (excluding tax). Let’s check it out!

A Spacious Interior That Exudes Hospitality

Upon entering the restaurant, you are greeted by a large counter seating area.

Further in, there is a raised tatami seating area where you can take off your shoes.

In the center, a lively fish tank with energetic fish sets the scene. It’s like an aquarium.

You can also choose from three types of tea at your table – hojicha (roasted green tea), and genmaicha (green tea with roasted rice), and regular green tea.

Which do you like the most? It is a perfect way to start a conversation.

Personally, I was thrilled to find rock salt on the table – perfect for white fish sushi and tempura. The attention to detail in hospitality is impressive.

Fresh and Slightly Upscale Sushi – Simply the Best

I started with some items that caught my attention.

Tenshi no Ebi (Angel Prawn) 539 yen

A visual masterpiece with transparent shrimp that’s sure to be delicious.

And more…

Nikuatsu Shiitake Ganen Aburi (Thick Blowtorched Shiitake Mushrooms with Rock Salt) 539 yen

Iwashio Zanmai (Rock Salt Flavor) 649 yen

Shio Lemon Zanmai (Salted Lemon flavor) 649 yen

Just looking at these sushi options had my mouth watering. The opportunity to enjoy high-quality fish in a conveyor sushi setting is a real treat.

Lunch Deals Are Unbeatable! Great Value for Money

While just the sushi is reasonably priced, the lunch menu is where the real deals are!

 Tsurumi Set : 1,386 yen

The Tsurumi Set includes 8 nigiri, a small side dish, chawanmushi (steamed egg custard), and a choice of three soups (udon, red miso, or clam soup) – an incredible value!

As you can see, the nigiri lineup alone is satisfying, with eight pieces.

On top of that, the red miso soup I chose had huge chunks of fish.

 Absolute extravagance.

The Hanakago Set includes five pieces of sushi, tempura, a small side dish, assorted sashimi, chawanmushi, soup, and dessert.

You can eat various kinds of food at a time since there are so many kinds of food in this set. And even dessert is included!

The centerpiece of the meal is the ornate sushi, charmingly small and bite-sized. The artful plating is a testament to their skill and attention to detail.

There are three different types of sashimi.

Similarly, there are three different types of tempura.

The soup is brimming with plump, delicious clams. No corners were cut in any of the dishes!  It’s impressive that such a top-notch lunch is just a tad over 1,000 yen.

When You Crave Sushi at Noon

“Katsugyo Kaiten Sushi Suiten, Kumamoto Kikuyo Branch” is the go-to place for fresh seafood sushi that’s easy on the wallet.

The lunch menu in particular is quite affordable and highly recommended!  Do give it a try!
