Amidst the buzz on Instagram, I ventured to try the famed blue soft serve ice cream at Meru Olive. Read on to find out more!

Meru Olive is located along National Route 3 in Ueki, Kumamoto. Despite its modest size, the vibrant sign makes it hard to miss.

On this sunny Sunday, there were so many customers that there was even a traffic warden on duty to help direct cars in and out of the parking area.

This blue wonder, dubbed the ‘Galaxy Soft’, incorporates many healthy ingredients, with the main component being spirulina—often hailed as the king of superfoods. Packed with protein, vitamins, and minerals, it’s crafted for those looking to indulge healthily.

It was developed by the owner with the hope of providing a delicious yet healthy kind of ice cream.

Blue soft serve is a rare find.

Served in a cocoa waffle cone and made from soy milk, the ice cream offers a refreshingly light yet deliciously satisfying taste that even those in their forties can enjoy without any burden on the digestive system.

There’s also outdoor seating available if you prefer dining al fresco.

Osmanthus Soda on the Way Home

One drink that particularly piqued my interest was the ‘Kinmokusei Soda’.

Describing its flavor is challenging—it has the distinctively floral taste of kinmokusei (osmanthus), a fragrance unique to the autumn season in Japan and other East Asian countries, when the tree, also known as “fragrant olive” blooms with distinctive small white or orange flowers.

Whether you’re deciding on a treat during a long and pleasant drive or simply contemplating which delicacy to try, give this intriguing menu a shot.

Even when there is a line, the wait time is minimal. Parking accommodates about 5-7 cars depending on size.

With the heat expected to continue for the next while, I definitely recommend treating yourself to Meru Olive’s delightful blue soft serve—an ideal way to cool down and add a splash of fun to your day.
